Development Office - Endowment Fund

Continuing the Legacy of Christian Education at Salem!

What is the SLS Endowment Fund? Where is it held and invested? This Fund is a permanent investment to support the mission and vision of Salem Lutheran School. Only interest income, generated from the fund principal, may be used for support. The Lutheran Foundation of Texas located in Austin, Texas holds and invests our endowment fund. LFOT is able to partner with SLS and can provide professional financial and estate planning for those who may be considering a planned gift to our endowment fund.

What can the Endowment Fund do for SLS?

  • Provide long term financial stability and strength.

  • Allow for greater enrichment and margin of excellence without affecting tuition.

  • Fund programs not now financially possible.

  • Provide support for future growth needs of SLS.

  • Provide donors with a way to leave a legacy that lives "forever".

What are our Endowment Fund goals?

By the end of 2006 we would like this fund to reach a minimum of $500,000. By 2012, our goal is to have over $3 million in this endowment.

In what ways can I give to the Endowment?

  • A gift of cash. Immediate and simple.

  • A gift through a last will or testament. Usually a cash amount or % of estate remainder.

  • A gift through a Charitable Trust. Personal or business trust set up which can provide a gift to the endowment and income to the donor.

  • A gift of life insurance. Naming SLS Endowment Fund as the beneficiary or owner of a life insurance policy.

  • A gift of appreciated assets or property. Stocks, mutual funds, debt-free real estate, etc…converted to cash by SLS and placed in the endowment..

You may also establish a "named endowment" gift "in honor of", or "in memory of" a loved one. Named endowments must be established with a minimum of $5,000.

When was this Endowment Fund started?

This fund was started in 1998, in celebration and honor of Herbert "Teacher" Buescher's 100th birthday. "Teacher" Buescher moved to Tomball in 1918 to serve as the only teacher in Salem's one-room schoolhouse. He retired in 1963 after teaching for 45 years at Salem. Teacher Buescher's commitment to serving Christ through his teaching ministry reflects the legacy of education at Salem Lutheran School.
